Off the northwest coast of Lombok, lie the three famous Gili Islands - Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan.
These stunning coral islands have long white sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters with extensive reefs, abundant sea life and the giant turtles that attract divers and snorkellers from all over the world.
Gili Trawangan is the most popular of the Gili Islands and has a reputation for being
relaxed and laid-back, yet sophisticated and chic. Clean beaches, pristine clear waters, no pollution and an unspoilt natural environment exist alongside quality hotels and restaurants, with a lively social scene and a vibrant nightlife. It is the combination of these traits that makes Gili T (as it's known) such a popular place to visit.
Totally unspoilt, with low-rise buildings sensitive to the theme of Lombok, Gili Trawangan has no
motorised transport and is only 3 x 2km in size, meaning that you can walk or ride a pushbike to most locations easily. Local transport is by cidomo (local ponies and colourful carts), with a ride
around the island taking about an hour – an experience everyone needs to try at least once!
Gili T is the perfect destination for anyone wanting to escape the pressures of fast-paced
living, as life on the island moves at a relaxed pace. Days are filled with lazing on white sand beaches, diving and snorkelling nearby reefs, enjoying
good food at the many bars and restaurants on the island, and other activities such as reef surfing, horse riding, fishing, cycling and
golf. Visit the turtle sanctuary, meditate at sunset point or kayak to the many private bays on the west of the island. Or simply lie back with a good book and a cold drink and melt into the seductive ambience of island life...
